Protein quality is more than one ingredient or percentage

The guaranteed analysis reports crude protein as a minimum. That number does not, by itself, describe amino-acid balance, digestibility, calorie density, ingredient amounts, or whether a food fits a particular dog or cat.

Compare in context

• Confirm the intended species and life stage.
• Read the adequacy statement and the complete formulation information available.
• Account for moisture when comparing wet and dry foods.
• Ask the manufacturer for a typical nutrient analysis when a label minimum is not enough.
• Seek veterinary help when protein or another nutrient matters for a medical reason.
