Use feeding directions as a starting point

Package directions provide a general starting amount. Individual needs can vary with species, life stage, body condition, activity, environment, health, reproductive status, treats, and other foods.

  • Record calories per kilogram and per familiar serving unit.
  • Use the same measuring tool consistently.
  • Account for treats, toppers, supplements, and food used with medication.
  • Monitor body weight and body condition with veterinary guidance.
  • Follow product or veterinary transition instructions when changing food.

Educational note: This information is general education, not veterinary advice. A veterinarian should help with symptoms, diagnosed conditions, medication, therapeutic diets, suspected food reactions, or individualized feeding needs.
