Seven useful questions to ask a pet-food company

A company should be able to explain its product beyond a slogan. Use questions that help you understand who designed the food, how it is made, and what information supports it.

1. Who formulates the food? Ask about the person’s qualifications and role.
2. What life stage is the food intended for? Confirm the answer against the package adequacy statement.
3. Where is the food manufactured? Ask whether the company owns the facility or works with a manufacturing partner.
4. What quality and safety controls are used? Look for a specific explanation rather than a broad assurance.
5. Is complete nutrient information available? Ask for the information needed for a meaningful comparison.
6. What research or feeding work supports the product? Ask what was studied and how it relates to the formula.
7. How can a veterinarian obtain additional information? A useful company contact path matters when an individual case needs professional review.

One answer rarely decides everything. Record the response, date, source, and any follow-up question so you can compare companies consistently.
