Dog food recalls happen every year
Free 60-Second Dog Food Safety Check
Recalls hit big and small brands alike, and most owners never look at the bag until the news says so. Knowing who made the food, where the lot code is, and how to check it against the FDA recall list takes about a minute. That is the fastest way to know whether the bag in your pantry is affected.
The 4 spots to check on the bag
- Brand and who made it. “Manufactured by” means that company made the food. “Manufactured for” or “distributed by” usually means another company made it for them.
- Lot code and best-by date. Usually stamped on the top or bottom seam. Photograph it when you buy the bag.
- Company phone or website. Your direct line for questions about a lot or a recall.
- AAFCO nutrition statement. Says whether the food is “complete and balanced” and for which life stage.
Then match your lot code and date against the FDA recall list. If your lot code and date are not listed, your bag usually is not part of that recall.
